Treasury Wine Estates (TWE) brands Saltram and Wolf Blass have taken out two of the most prestigious honors at Winestate Magazine’s annual Wine of the Year Awards held in Adelaide.
Saltram Winemaker Shavaughn Wells became the first female to be awarded Australian Winemaker of the Year by the magazine. The honor is awarded to the winemaker who produces the largest number of high ranking wines over the course of the year.
Shavaughn said she was humbled to be awarded the honor: “It’s such great recognition that reflects upon Saltram’s amazing vineyards and the dedicated and passionate people I work with, many of whom often work behind the scenes.”
Wolf Blass was named Winestate Magazine’s coveted Australian Wine Company of the Year, beating over 1,000 Australian wineries who collectively submitted more than 7,000 wines.
The award is calculated on the winery with the highest scored results over the year, with multiple wines across all categories achieving points; it is testament to the consistent quality of Wolf Blass wines entered across the spectrum – from entry level Red and Yellow Label wines, right through to premium wines – Black Label and Platinum Label.
One of Australia’s most respected wine magazines, Winestate evaluated over 10,000 wines from Australia and New Zealand, with judging panels of industry winemaker peers, Master of Wine individuals and industry experts, in order to come to their decision regarding Australia’s finest wine producer. Less than five per cent of wines entered reached the finalist stage this year.
